Dear Residents,
As spring rolls in after winter, the roar of landscapers and their leaf blowers returns. Planting beds are stripped bare and anything that looks even slightly “messy” is bagged up and hauled away. All in the name of a so-called spring cleanup.
A traditional spring cleanup can run hundreds of dollars, and what do you get versus what do you need? You probably only need branches picked up which can easily be done by hand.
Those leaves you’re paying someone to blow out of your planting beds into the recycling center? They’re home to butterflies, bees, lightning bugs, and countless other pollinators clinging to life after winter. Save the money and leave the leaves for your own mulch and fertilizer.
That endless roar of gas-powered blowers and mowers as landscapers swarm the neighborhood is worse than you think. It’s toxic carbon monoxide, benzene, undissolved oil and gas, noise pollution, and its all happening right in our own yards where our pets and children play.
Earn good karma!
